First impressions of Dubai

Old Dubai was a pearl village.  Parts of old Dubai still charm.  This was the view from our hotel room, looking down at the museum.

The port in the distance

Wind towers to capture the breeze

The souq

Lovely shapes

Lovely patterns

New Dubai grew up along the Creek (an inlet just like False Creek in Vancouver)

With water taxis (abras) just like Granville Island

And cruise ships for dining

And then there are fabulous beaches

And the landmark Burj Al Arab ( 7 star hotel!)

And events like the World Cup - richest horse-racing purse in the world

Blurred because it is really a big party, with a Big Hat Contest!!!

Did I say party?

Dubai is a blend of the very traditional...

With the outrageously modern (this is an indorro ski hill)

Dubai seems like a giant construction zone.  The Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower) will be the tallest in the world.

We chose to live in a brand new neighborhood made to look old.  Old Town.

But the best part of Dubai, in my view, is the desert!
